White-light insensitive material for thermal registration and process for the fabrication of lithographic printing plates

A top coat, which transmits infrared (IR) radiation but not white light and can be removed with water or an aqueous solution, is used on IR-recording material. The material has a substrate and radiation-sensitive, water-insoluble layer, which contains an infrared (IR)-absorber and dissolves or at least swells in an aqueous alkaline developer after exposure to IR radiation.
