PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately reproduce signals recorded in domains of <=0.1μm size by generating laser light and irradiating a magneto-optical recording medium with the laser light without using an objective lens. SOLUTION: This magneto-optical recording medium 10 consists of a light- transmitting substrate 1 such as glass and polycarbonate, a recording layer 2 comprising TbFeCo, a reproducing layer 4 comprising GdFeCo and a protective layer 5 comprising SiN. The recording layer 2 of the magneto-optical recording medium 10 not only consists of TbFeCo but may be a single magnetic film comprising Fe, Co, Ni and elements selected from Tb, Dy and Nd. The reproducing layer 4 not only consists of GdFeCo but may be a magnetic film comprising one element selected from GdFe, GdCo, TdCo, Ho, Gd, Tb, Dy, one element selected from Fe, Co and Ni, and one element selected from Fe, Co and Ni.
