PURPOSE: An HPA(Host Protected Area) duplication method is provided to duplicate the host protected area completely by generating the host protected area in a target hard disk drive from a source disk drive including HPA with a duplicating machine. CONSTITUTION: The contents of a hard disk drive or the other information storage media including content stored in a host protected area or reserved area of the hard disk are duplicated by using a hard disk drive duplicating machinery. The duplication process includes the steps of detecting the presence of an HPA on a source drive(204), and if detected, generating an HPA of a sufficiently accommodating size on the target disk drive. Information from the source HPA drive is written to the created HPA of the target drive. The remaining content from the source drive is written to an available section of the target drive. The presence of the HPA in the source drive is detected, and the HPA is generated on the target drive. The content of the source HPA is copied to the HPA on the target device to ensure a proper duplication of the target drive.
