PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for profitably producing a β- hydroxyhydroperoxide compound and a carboxylic acid compound by oxidizing an internally di-substituted olefin compound with hydrogen peroxide. SOLUTION: This method for producing the β-hydroxyhydroperoxide compound and the carboxylic acid compound is characterized by reacting the internally di-substituted olefin compound with the hydrogen peroxide in the presence of a metal oxide catalyst prepared by reacting hydrogen peroxide with at least one metal compound selected from the group consisting of tungsten metal, molybdenum metal, tungsten compounds comprising tungsten and the group IIIb elements, the group IVb elements, the group Vb elements or the group VIb elements excluding oxygen, and molybdenum compounds comprising molybdenum and the group IIIb elements, the group IVb elements, the group Vb elements or the group VIb elements excluding oxygen. |
