PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem inherent in the conventional perpendicular magnetic recording head of a perpendicular magnetic recording system, i.e., the impossibility of independently controlling the height dimension of a main magnetic pole layer and the width dimension of a track with direction, and the smaller height dimension of the main magnetic pole layer than the predetermined value because of the effect of milling during the elimination of a plated substrate layer. SOLUTION: A nonmagnetic layer 40 is laminated on a main magnetic pole layer 24. Thus, while the height dimension of the main magnetic pole layer 24 is maintained at a constant value, the stuck film of a plated substrate layer 71 stuck to both side faces 24d of the main magnetic pole layer 24 in a manufacturing process is properly eliminated, the track width Tw of the main magnetic pole layer 24 is reduced, and the width dimension of a track width direction and the height dimension are independently controlled.
