摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make high-speed switching and the large amount of change of an optical characteristic compatible. SOLUTION: This method is the driving method of a liquid crystal element in which transparent first and second sub substrates which are disposed to face oppositely by being separated with the distance of 15μm to 200μm and the first and second electrodes formed on counter surfaces of the first and second substrates and a liquid crystal layer which is held between the first and the second substrate are included and makes the optical characteristic of the element to be changed by making the alignment direction of liquid crystal to be changed while applying a driving voltage having a prescribed voltage waveform between the first and second electrodes and, moreover, the driving method includes a process in which a driving voltage having a first waveform capable of obtaining a first optical characteristic of the element is applied between the first and second electrodes and a process in which a driving voltage whose effective voltage is lower than that of the driving voltage having the first waveform in the range of 10 V to 500 V and also which has a second waveform capable of obtaining a second optical characteristic different from the first optical characteristic is applied between the first and second electrodes.
