PURPOSE: A recording device of a DTV(Digital TV) is provided to allow the DTV confirm a storage medium connected to the DTV through identification information and control an interface between the confirmed storage medium and the DTV, so that the DTV is compatible with a plurality of storage media. CONSTITUTION: If a recording or playing command is inputted from a user, a microcomputer(103) of a DTV(100) generates a confirmation command and outputs the command to a storage medium(200). The storage medium transmits identification information to the microcomputer. The microcomputer discriminates whether the storage medium is identical to a prior storage medium and has a same version. If so, an input unit(101) receives broadcasting signals. A decoder(102) decodes the inputted broadcasting signals, and outputs the decoded signals to the storage medium for recording/playing or to a display unit(300). If the versions are mutually different, the microcomputer outputs the identification information to a converter(104). And the converter provides an interface between the DTV and the storage medium, by referring to data included in the identification information.
