PURPOSE: Provided is use of a Sinomenium acutum extract obtained by extracting Sinomenium acutum in water, filtering and freeze-drying. The extract can be effectively used in the inhibition and treatment of obesity because it increases energy consumption without suppressing appetite. CONSTITUTION: Sinomenium acutum is dried in the shade, and 1kg dried product is mixed with 10L distilled water for 6hrs, filtered with a waterman filter paper No.41 and freeze-dried. Thus obtained powder is administered into 200g Sprague-Dawley in a cage maintaining at a temperature of 22±2deg.C and a moisture of 50 to 60%. In the feeding test, the Sinomenium acutum powder exhibits inhibition of increase in weight and body fat accumulation.
