PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a facsimile machine adopting a system where an original of the A2 size is divided into four images of the size A4 and the division images are transmitted. SOLUTION: A reader 3 reads an image of an original 2 placed on a contact glass plate 1 and stores the image to a page memory 11 in a facsimile control section 10, a compressor 13 once compresses stored image data and stores the compressed data to an SAF(Storage And Forward) 12 by each page. When the storage of data to the SAF 12 and the storage of data of all pages are finished, the facsimile machine enters a transmission operation to a facsimile machine at the other party. In the transmission operation, each page of the image data is read from the SAF 12 and an expander 14 expands the image into an original image (the image before the compression), and the resulting image is expanded once in a page memory 11. Then a MODEM compressor 15 recompresses the image expanded in the page memory 11 by a compression system suitable for communication and transfers the data to a MODEM 20. The MODEM 20 modulates the transferred image signal and transmits the modulated signal to the machine at the other party that is a receiver.
