PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus which has a travelling body having a mirror and smoothly and stably moving, finely maintains planarity and an optical position of the mirror when the travelling body is elastically deformed, and can accurately read an image. SOLUTION: The image reading apparatus comprises an optical system scanning and exposing a document on a platen glass, reading the image, and having at least the mirror. The image reading apparatus also comprises: a housing formed in the image reading apparatus; and the travelling body provided with one protrusion at one end in the direction vertical to that of scanning and exposing and two protrusions at another end, holding the mirror, having one movable part moving on one side along the housing and at least two movable parts moving on another side along the housing, and moving along the housing.
