PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a signal transmitter and a signal receiver for realizing a signal transmission system which transmits an audio signal and a control signal for controlling a monitor together with a video signal. SOLUTION: The signal transmitter is provided with a time axis compressing part 101 for compressing the audio signal on a time axis and outputting as a time axis compressed audio signal and a multiplexing part 102 for multiplexing the audio signal, the control signal and the time axis compressed audio signal and outputting them to an external part as a video-audio-control multiplex signal. The signal receiver is provided with a separating part 103 for separating the video-audio-control signal into the video signal, the time axis compressed audio signal and the control signal, a time axis extending part 104 for applying the time axis extention to the time axis compressed audio signal and restoring the original audio signal, and an audio clock reproducing part 105 for receiving a video clock from the signal unit, reproducing an audio clock based on the video clock and outputting it to the time axis extending part 104.
