<p>A liquid-crystal layer (21) is sandwiched between a first insulating substrate (11) and a second insulating substrate (13) that are opposed to each other. First electrodes (15) are placed between the liquid-crystal layer (21) and the first substrate (11), and second electrodes (18) and metal reflectors (19) are placed between the liquid-crystal layer (21) and the second substrate (13). The metal reflectors (19) provide gaps between adjacent pixels. The second substrate (13) is provided with a conductive light-absorbing layer (23) over its surface opposed to the metal reflectors (19), while the metal reflectors (19) are each provided with a transparent insulating film (25) opposed to the liquid-crystal layer (21). The light-absorbing layer (23) in the gaps between adjacent metal reflectors (19) functions as a black matrix, and the transparent insulating film (25) protects the reflective surface of the metal reflectors (19) from corrosion and deterioration.</p> |
