The energy absorber comprises two plastics guides (50A) and a holder (70) which fixes the guide automatically in the guide slit (90) in the fixing angle (30) when the plastics guide is pushed into the guide slit into a seat position. A flat metal coil strip (48A) passes through the guide and is plastically deformed in that during relative rectilinear displacement between the fixing angle the flat metal strip it is pressed against each by the first and second convex anvils (80,84) associated with the guides so that the rectilinear displacement is counteracted by resistance which is due to the plastic deformation of the flat metal strip.
