PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for electroplating, which can decrease C curling of a sheet width direction, can unifomize a coating weight in the sheet width direction, and narrow the space between the sheet and the electrodes on electroplating a continually traveling metal strip. SOLUTION: The method for electroplating a metal strip horizontally transferred in a plating bath is characterized by arranging a pair of rolls coated with an elastic material, for sandwiching the metal strip between at least one of a front and a back of an electrification unit, each consisting of an electrification roll and a backup roll, which are arranged so as to put the metal strip between themselves, and making a surface hardness of the roll arranged in the above backup roll higher than that of the roll arranged in the above electrification roll.
