PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently obtain a lens having good quality by efficiently heating a pair of forming dies and improving the transcription property of the surface of a glass lens to be formed. SOLUTION: Upper and lower dies 3, 4 are heated from the outer periphery thereof at a temperature lower than the one during press forming, by use of infrared heaters 12, 14 arranged at outer periphery of the upper and lower forming dies, respectively, when glass between a pair of forming dies is press- formed. At the time of heating, the temperatures are each measured with thermocouples 11, 13 so as to control the outputs of the infrared heaters 12, 14 through thermoregulators 15, 16, and thereafter, the temperatures are each measured with thermocouples 7, 8 embedded in the upper and lower forming dies 3, 4 and the outputs of cartridge heaters 5, 6 embedded in the upper and lower forming dies 3, 4 are controlled by thermoregulators 9, 10, based on the obtained temperatures, and then the upper and lower forming dies are heated from the inside thereof so as to be regulated to the temperature when press- formed.
