PURPOSE: An initial driving method of an optical disk device is provided to perform operations in parallel, such as initial driving for initializing hardware and software in a CD/DVD-ROM(Compact Disk/Digital Versatile Disk-Read Only Memory) driver and confirmation of whether a host command or a user key is inputted. CONSTITUTION: If an optical disk device is powered on(S40), a microcomputer starts initial driving operations(S41). The microcomputer consecutively performs the initial driving operations by stages, such as initialization of hardware and software, chip set initialization, servo initialization, read and storage of optical disk information, and diagnosis(S50). The microcomputer checks whether a host command or a user key is inputted while performing the initial driving operations(S60). If inputted(S61), a flag for informing the host command or user key input is set(S62). Whether a state is a service available state is checked(S63). The service is performed and a set flag is cleared(S64). If the initial driving operations by stages are completed(S65), a command of which the transmission is requested from the host or a user key input is waited through an interface(S66).
