PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical wavelength converter which converts a plurality of optical bits from a first wave to a second wavelength. SOLUTION: The optical wavelength converter has a directional coupler. The directional coupler has a first waveguide which receives the plurality of optical bits in the first wavelength and a second waveguide which receives the continuous wave signal of the second wave. The directional coupler has an output port and a coupling resion. A certain bit in the plurality of optical bits of the first wave responds to '1' of binary values, and a CW(continuous wave) signal is coupled from the second waveguide to the output port.
