PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a long-term life devise even a reed switch generates a chattering. SOLUTION: This position sensor for a cylinder has a sensing means. The sensing means responds to a magnet that is attached to a piston, sliding the inside of the cylinder body, to sense the piston position and then display it with light. Furthermore, the sensing means has reed switches 2, 3, emitters 16, 20, and switching elements 14, 21, 22. The reed switches 2, 3 respond to the magnet attached to the piston. Each emitter emits different light individually. The switching elements 14, 21, 22 make the emitters 16, 20 radiate by the output of the reed switches 2, 3.
