PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a converter used as an electric furnace, too which can be used as the ordinary converter or as the electric furnace, and also, for which it is unnecessary to change the furnace body at each changing-over. SOLUTION: A lance 10 for blowing oxygen is inserted from the upper part of the furnace body and also, one electrode 20 can be inserted instead of this lance 10, and an electrode for supplying the electric power for heating material in the furnace together with the above electrode is arranged at the lower part of the furnace body.
