PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a half-cut-off device capable of setting whether to execute half-cut-off or not based on a detected kind of a tape, a tape printing device provided with the same, and a half-cut-off method. SOLUTION: This half-cut-off device capable of cutting by using a half cutter 132b only an image receiving layer Ta of a tape like member T in a width direction of the tape like member T having the image receiving layer Ta and a release layer Tc, comprises a tape detecting means for detecting a kind of the tape like member T, a half cutter drive setting means for setting whether to drive the half cutter 132b or not based on the detected result of the tape detecting means, and the half cutter means for executing half-cut-off, when the half cutter 132b is set to be driven by the half cutter drive setting means.
