PURPOSE: A method for processing an ADSL's PPPoA(Point to Point Protocol over ATM) call in an IP/ATM interworking unit is provided to execute a call control message processing function, processed at the SPA(Service Processing board Assembly) and ALIA(ATM Line Interface board Assembly) of an IWU(InterWorking Unit), in order to transmit the information of users, connected to an ADSL subscriber network, to contents providers, connected to Internet, and network elements and to transfer information received from the network elements to users at a high speed. CONSTITUTION: If an ADSL subscriber attempts PPPoA call access(301), a call setup signal and a VP/VC setup request signal are transmitted from the ADSL subscriber to an IWU(302). Afterwards, in an idle state, the IWU task of an interworking gateway transmits a call process signal to the ADSL subscriber(303,304). Then the IWU task transmits a call connection signal and an associated VP/VC to the ADSL subscriber(305). The ADSL subscriber transmits a connection acknowledgement signal to the IWU(306). The IWU collects the calling number according to ATM UNI(User to Network Interface) 3.1 signaling and establishes a data channel call connection(307).
