PURPOSE: A character input method and an information telecommunication service method using the same are provided to secure the efficiency of character input, and extensibility and adaptability about an information service. CONSTITUTION: Characters of an input processing object language are sub-set, and a representative character is designated in each sub-set character set and the designated representative character is assigned and marked on a key. It is judged whether an inputted character belongs to a specific character set. A representative character key of the character set to which the inputted character belongs is designated as a corresponding character input key. If the representative character is inputted alone, the characters included in the representative character are displayed on a display unit and a virtual keypad input mode is simultaneously set for generating a character the representative character, numerical keys, or functional keys to select a desired character among the displayed characters.
