PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coloring material-containing polymeric gel where a coloring material such as a pigment is dispersed in a polymeric gel undergoing volume change by stimulation, large in both the rate of volume change and its magnitude of the gel due to stimulation and high in gel strength, and to provide a method for producing the above polymeric gel. SOLUTION: This coloring material-containing polymeric gel is characterized by essentially comprising a coloring material as microparticles, a hydrophobic component and a hydrophilic component. The other objective method for producing the above polymeric gel is characterized by comprising at least the steps of blending a coloring material with a copolymer having a hydrophobic component and a hydrophilic component followed by making a crosslinking. The other version of the above method is characterized by comprising at least the steps of blending a coloring material with a copolymer having a hydrophobic component and a hydrophilic component to prepare a dispersed solution, adding the solution to a dispersion medium to effect suspension followed by making a crosslinking.
