PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data communication system that attains high-speed data transfer to the utmost while preventing missing of data in the case of the data transfer using a high speed bus adopting standards such as the IEEE1394 standards. SOLUTION: A printer 2 has a 1st reply processing system that immediately permits transmission of succeeding data packets by a personal computer 1 at the successful reception of data packets and a 2nd reply processing system that permits the transmission of data packet in prescribed timing after putting the personal computer on standby for the transmission of the succeeding data packets, uses the 1st reply processing system with priority when a reception buffer has an enough capacity and selects the 2nd reply processing system when the remaining storage permissible capacity of the reception buffer is small.
