PHOTO-FUNCTIONAL COMPOSITE MATERIAL CONTAINING RARE EARTH COMPLEX

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture a composite containing a rare earth complex having good light absorbing and emitting functions dispersed in a ceramic solid matrix and to provide a technique for designing and working the composite as an optical material by making use of the PSHB effect of the composite. SOLUTION: A europium crown ether complex is dispersed in a solid matrix comprising SiO2-MOx (M is a transition metal or the like) ceramics to obtain the objective composite which efficiently produces a permanent spectro-optical hole burning(PSHB) effect. When Ti, Zr or the like is used as a metal constituting the metal oxide(MOx) in the solid matrix, a formed hole can be held even to room temperature and the composite can be utilized as a wavelength multiple type high density optical recording material or the like.
