PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas-barrier coating composition capable of forming a gas-barrier coating film maintaining both the transparency and high gas- barrier tendency inherent in polyvinyl alcohol and affording higher adhesion with no need of any anchoring layer even in case the base consists of a polyolefin such as polypropylene. SOLUTION: This gas-barrier coating composition comprises (A) polyvinyl alcohol, (B) an alkoxysilane having epoxy group and shown by general formula (1), (C) an acid catalyst and (D) water optionally incorporated with a lower alcohol in the weight ratio A/B of (100:10) to (100:100).
