PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a generator exciting device that can be maintained and inspected concurrently with a maintenance and inspection of a generator and allows a cost reduction. SOLUTION: The generator exciter 3 includes an excitation transformer 32 that reduces the voltage of supplied alternating-current power, a thyristor 33 that converts power whose voltage is reduced by the excitation transformer 32 into direct-current power, and a field winding 31 that excites a generator 2 by power converted into a direct-current by the thyristor 33. The primary side of the excitation transformer 32 is connected between the generator 2 and a load-break switch 4.
