A procedure for the commutation of an electronically commutated motor which is designed for the connection at a DC network, has the following steps: - a parameter characteristic of the angular speed of the rotor (108) is detected; - starting from this parameter, a time point lying in the future is calculated for the switch-off of the current at the beginning of a commutation procedure; - after the attainment of this time point, the semiconducting switch conducting at that instant is controlled in non-conducting fashion by the whole of the first and third semiconducting switches in order to interrupt the current flowing to the drive winding (102) from the DC network in the first direction; - then three other steps.
