PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for preventing the formation of slag bear in a continuous casting mold is provided to prevent generation of break-out, improve surface shape of a steel billet and directly observe level and surface flow rate of molten steel by liquefying mold flux itself injected into molten steel in a mold. CONSTITUTION: The apparatus for preventing the formation of slag bear in a continuous casting mold comprises a crucible(4) installed at the outer part of a mold(10) to melt mold flux(3); a cover(8) which is installed to cover the upper part of the mold(10), the inner surface of which directly faces molten steel(12), and which is consisted of a material having a high reflectivity; and a supplying tube(7) for conveying the mold flux(3) from the crucible(4) to the mold(10). The method for preventing the formation of slag bear in a continuous casting mold comprises the steps of melting mold flux from the outer part of a mold(10); injecting the molten mold flux(3) onto the surface of molten steel; and cutting off radiant heat from molten steel(12).
