The invention relates to a valve comprising a housing (9) having front sides for resting against pipes and/or support components. An actuating means which is perpendicular to a pipe axis is arranged in said housing and a closing element which is connected to the actuating means interacts with a seat arranged in the housing. The front sides of the housing are fully or partially part of the region of the housing which surrounds the closing element and are embodied as interfaces for connection to connection adapters (5-20), the distance between said front sides of the housing defining the overall length of the valve being very small. The housing is embodied as a functional valve unit in the form of a wafer valve. For another form of connection, at least one connection adapter is fixed to at least one front side of the housing.
