A seat belt retractor has an electric motor 10 with driving means to retract and protract the seat belt, control means to control the driving means, door opening/closing detecting means 42, and wherein when the opening of a door is detected the retraction of the seat belt is carried out at a higher speed than when closing of the door is detected. Vehicle reverse detecting means may be provided to inhibit retraction of the seat belt when reverse gear is engaged. |
