PURPOSE: An ATM AAL2(ATM Adaptation Layer 2) type routing switch is provided to improve the performance of an ATM communication system by preventing ATM cell loss and maximizing efficiency in using AAL2 type cells. CONSTITUTION: An ATM AAL2 type routing switch in an ATM exchange consists of a plurality of ATM receiving parts(100), a plurality of ATM transmitting parts(200), and a router(300). Each ATM receiving part(100), if an ATM cell(10) is received from each associated target board(1,2), respectively confirms destinations for all the CPS-SDUs(Common Part Sublayer Service Data Unit) in the ATM cell and transmits them to the router by the CPS-SDU(300). Each ATM transmitting part(200), connected to each associated target board(1,2), receives a plurality of CPS-SDUs having an identical destination, recombines them into a full-unit ATM cell(10), and transmits it to each associated target board(1,2). The router(300), connected between the ATM receiving parts(100) and the ATM transmitting parts(200), receives a plurality of CPS-SDUs having their respective destinations from the ATM receiving parts(100), multiplexes them, and routes them their respective ATM transmitting part(200).
