PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a barrier rib in which a phosphor layer of a substantial thickness is formed on the side walls of the barrier rib by reducing the liquidity of the phosphor paste, and high luminance is realized as well as necessary strength obtained. SOLUTION: A film 7 having a higher porocity than the barrier rib 5 is formed all over the both side walls 5S1, 5S2 and top part 5T of the barrier rib 5. The desirable range of the porocity oft the film 7 is 3% to 30%, whereas the porocity of the barrier rib 5 is set to the value as close as possible to 0%. A fluorescent substance layer 6 is painted on the main face 10S of the substrate body 10 between the neighboring barrier ribs 5 and on the surface of the film 7.
