PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide such method and device which create a free-form surface directly from point group data and can create a high quality surface within a practical time. SOLUTION: In this method for creating a free-form surface directly from point group data, the point group data are divided into a plurality of blocks while the point group shape of each block is made to be as close to a basic surface as possible, free-form surfaces are created by a least energy method in such a manner that surface-to-surface connection is smoothly conducted and that a characteristic shape part is highlighted, and the free-form surface corresponding to the point group data is obtained by mutually connecting the respective created free-form surfaces. Then, surface quality is improved remarkably by using a high-density point group, and a practical value can be found in a pattern and design field handling a high quality surface.
