PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce power consumption of a semiconductor memory. SOLUTION: A word line controlling a selecting switch of a memory cell is activated after receiving a command of the second or on and after when the word line receives plural commands successively and reading and writing data from/in a memory cell in accordance with combination of these commands. Thereby, a control circuit for activating a word line can be operated with lower frequency than conventional one, power consumption can be reduced. Also, the word line is activated based on an address signal supplied with an initial command and one part of an address signal supplied with a command of the second or on and after it. Therefore, a memory region selected by these address signals can be made small and power consumption can be reduced.
