PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide information recording/reproducing method and device, suited to high recording density and which is capable of reducing the power consumption of the device. SOLUTION: A recording medium is constituted of a recording medium substrate 501, consisting of a material having light transmissivity, an electrode layer 502 consisting of a material having light transmissivity and conductivity and a recording layer 503 consisting of a material having a light shielding property. A head is oppositely arranged on the recording layer side of the recording medium via a fine distance and a light-receiving element 504, having a function for converting the strength of light into an electrical signal, is arranged directly above the reproducing aperture 104 of the head. The recording electrode layer 102 of the head and the electrode layer 502 on the recording medium are connected to a power supply 506 for recording. A light source 505 for reproducing is arranged on a surface opposite to the recoding surface of the recording medium.
