PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correctly read original images even in the case that dust and stains, etc., are stuck to the lower part of platen glass. SOLUTION: On the basis of image signals generated by idly rotating a feed belt in a state without an original while keeping a present position and reading images, whether or not the dust is stuck onto the platen glass is judged. In the case of detecting the stain of the platen glass at the skimming-through position, movement to a position at which the skimming-through can be started is performed. In the case that the dust is not present on the platen glass and in the case that the dust can be evaded through it is present, a skimming- through operation is performed and the productivity of image read is secured. |
