PURPOSE: A method for variably controlling the host bus clock of a portable computer is provided to reduce the consumption of the system power by variably controlling the throttle ratio for the clock using to a host bus connected between a CPU and a bridge controller according to the remaining battery power and the usage of the CPU. CONSTITUTION: The method for variably controlling the host bus clock comprises the steps of setting the throttle ratio for the host bus clock connecting the CPU with the bridge controller to a preset initial value(S10), detecting the remaining battery power in case that the power mode of the system is the battery use mode(S11) and variably controlling the throttle ratio according to the detected remaining battery power(S20). The throttle ratio is variably controlled by the value reversely proportioning to the remaining battery power.
