<p>The present invention relates to paging in telecommunication systems. More particularly, the present invention relates to the determination of a paging reference in a telecommunication system. The present invention provides in a telecommunication system, a system of determining a reference for determining the designation of an incoming message, the telecommunication system including a network node and at least one user equipment device (UE) supporting a corresponding unique subscriber identity reference (SI), the network node and UE each calculating the reference to determine the designation of the incoming message, the system includes a method including the steps of: a) upon entering a registration area, forwarding the corresponding SI to the network node; b) at each of the UE and network node, extracting/determining at least four digits of SI; c) each of the UE and network node calculating the reference using the result of step b). Preferably for UMTS networks, step b) includes performing at least one of the following operations SI mod 10000 or SI div 10000, or SI Mod 100000 or SI div 1000000.</p> |
