PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problems that the reduction of power consumption of a display unit is difficult in a conventional configuration which extracts light to the outside in time series about each of a plurality of light transmission bodies and a display image deteriorates due to light made incident from the outside or optical loss within the light transmission bodies. SOLUTION: A light emitting means controls a plurality of light emitting elements individually. A light guide means is constituted by patternizing resin which has photosensitivity and is formed on a supporting base plate haing a light absorbing layer. A light extraction means extracts light simultaneously from areas selected previously by a plurality of light guide means. The light extraction means has an antireflection coating on a surface facing an observer. The efficiency of light extraction of the light extraction means in corrected according to the loss of light in the light guide means. The light extraction means has an optical material whose refractive index changes with external electric fields.
