PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid-crystalline medium for matrix LCD, TN or STN displays which exhibit very high resistivities, low threshold voltages and short switching times while meeting the other constrains. SOLUTION: This liquid-crystalline medium comprises one or more compounds of general formula (1) (wherein R1 and R2 independently of each other are H, a 1-7C alkyl or alkoxy group or a 2-7C alkenyl group) and additionally comprises further liquid-crystalline compounds.
