PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an optically active compound (a photoreactive chiral agent) having photosensitivity and capable of greatly changing the helical pitch (twisting power) of a liquid crystal with light. SOLUTION: This optically active compound is represented by formula (1) [wherein, R1 is hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, an alkyl group, an aryl group, a heterocyclic group, an alkenyl group, an alkynyl group, an alkoxy group, an acyl group, an alkoxycarbonyl group, an aryloxycarbonyl group, an acyloxy group or cyano group; L1 and L2 are each a halogen atom, an alkyl group, an alkoxy group, cyano group or nitro group; X is N or CH; and (l) and (m) are each 0-2].
