PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for preparing new and known diphosphines through intermediates (some thereof are new). SOLUTION: Phenol is converted into a phenoxide to form a formaldehyde acetal, which is then converted into a cycloheptadiene. The resultant cycloheptadiene is converted into a triflate compound, which is then reacted with a secondary phosphine to form the diphosphine represented by formula I (wherein, R is an aryl or a heteroaryl group; and R1 to R4 are each independently hydrogen, a 1-10C-alkyl, a 1-10C-alkoxy, F, Cl or Br). |
