METHOD OF DETECTING FAILURE OF HEATER FOR HEATING FUEL ON THE BASIS OF POWER CONSUMPTION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect the failure of a heater for heating fuel of an engine mainly on the basis of the software constitution from a view point of the consumption of electric current. SOLUTION: The generated output of a generator is calculated on the basis of at least one of the combination of the generator rotating frequency and the generator exciting current, or the combination of the engine speed and the engine output when the engine does not drive a vehicle, the power consumption of the heater is calculated by subtracting the power consumption of other auxiliary machines form the generated output calculated value, and the failure of the heater is determined when the calculated heater power consumption is different from a predetermined standard value exceeding the predetermined deviation.
