PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating method preventing a coating liquid from moving to the back surface opposite to a coating surface even in the case that the coating liquid is applied to the coating surface while continuously traveling a web having different widths. SOLUTION: The passage of a joining part 11 of a web 10 is detected by a detection part. Application of the coating liquid is stopped based on detecting signals from the detection part. When the application is stopped, blowing nozzles 18 are moved to both ends in the width direction of the web on the upstream side of the joining part 11. The application is restarted after completing the movement of the blowing nozzles 18. Thereby, the joining part 11 passes through a position to which the coating liquid is applied, between a stopping step and a restarting step, which prevents the coating liquid from moving to the back surface opposite to the coating surface. As a result, adhesion of the coating liquid to a pass roller on the downstream side of the blowing nozzle, which dispenses with cleaning work of the pass roller to improve the operating efficiency of the apparatus. |
