PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing small diatomaceous earth compacts for various carriers which is capable of stably maintaining shapes and easily manufacturing the diatomaceous earth compacts without using special diatomaceous earth raw materials, is capable of holding a relatively high percentage water absorption and is capable of adjusting the same. SOLUTION: Dry powder of diatomaceous earth and water are kneaded and the green compacts of 45 to 55 wt.% moisture content are formed by wet process molding of the kneaded mixture. The small green compacts are then fired, by which the small diatomaceous earth compact of 70 to 100 wt.% in percentage water absorption are manufactured. The moisture content of the small green compacts is adjusted at this time, by which the percentage water absorption of the small diatomaceous earth compacts which are products is adjusted.
