PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact and high-performance camera system having a focal distance switching function by using a three-focus lens having performance almost equivalent to that of a single focus lens as an interchangeable lens. SOLUTION: This camera system having a camera main body, that is, a body, and a photographic lens freely attached to/detached from the body, that is, the interchangeable lens is composed of a body-side controller (CPU 101) arranged in the body and controlling the action of respective parts on the body side, several diaphragms (diaphragms A to C) provided in the interchangeable lens, arranged at different positions in an optical axis direction in the optical path of the photographing optical system of the interchangeable lens and capable of varying their apertures in order to regulate passing luminous flux, and a lens-side controller (CPU 201) arranged in the interchangeable lens, controlling the action of the interchangeable lens and performing communication with the body-side controller. The one specified diaphragm is controlled based on control information from the CPU 101, and the rest of the diaphragms are controlled according to a control signal from the CPU 201.
