Barrel tilting apparatus, is new. The apparatus, designed to tilt a barrel (12) so that its lengthwise axis (14) oscillates about a median horizontal line, consists of a base with two pairs of wheels (16.1, 16.2) for the barrel to rest on, and a motor (26) to drive the wheels through a chain and sprocket (28), pulley and belt or gear system. The two wheels in each pair are located at opposite ends of the barrel and rotate about offset axes (20) on the ends of bars (24) projecting in opposite directions from a driven axle (22). During operation the two ends of the barrel are alternately raised and lowered as it is rotated about its lengthwise axis, so that a liquid inside is spread over its entire inner surface. A variant of the design could incorporate stops to prevent the barrel from slipping lengthwise as it is tilted. |
