The electromagnetic actuator for a motor vehicle gearbox has an electronic control circuit (11) for a motor (12) having a movement converting transmission. The control has sensors to determine the position attained by the control (19) lever for a receiver (18) on which the force exerted on the actuator (4) is a maximum, to control the force applied on the control (19) lever. The position sensors can operate by detecting the electrical power consumption of the motor.
