PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device for automobiles which improves the drivers adaptability to visual sensation, when a vehicle enters inside a tunnel. SOLUTION: This display device includes a display 2, which is installed near the dashboard of the vehicle, a lighting state detecting means 3 for a light which detects the lighting state of the light, a navigation device 6 which detects the present position of the vehicle, a time-detecting means which reads the data on the present time and data, an illuminance sensor 4 and a controller 7. The device changes the brightness of the display so as to decrease the brightness toward a prescribed direction in accordance with respective pieces of the data detected by the lighting state detecting means for the light, the navigation device, the time-detecting means and the illuminance sensor. As a result, the adaptability of the drivers to visual sensation is improved, and the fail-proof visual recognition of necessary information is made possible.
